The Serama is a Malaysian breed of chicken that was developed from Red Jungle Fowl, Japanese Bantam, and a variety of other breeds. It was bred to be a pet and show chicken. As the smallest breed of chicken, it does make a really great pet. We breed them for gentleness, posture, and good looks. They can be any color and pattern, so each one is unique and special.
We show our Seramas in both the standard cage shows, and the Table Top shows. The latter compare Seramas in conformation, personality and charisma. In a Table Top show, the owner drops the bird on a carpeted table and poses it. Then the owner steps back and lets the judge evaluate the bird. Preparing for a Table Top show involves training your Serama to stand proudly on the table without flying away.
Members of the Simply Serama Group get together every month to discuss Serama topics and shows, and to create cool crafts using tiny Serama eggs and beautiful feathers. We have learned about color genetics, the anatomy of a chicken, how to train and show Seramas, how to make custom carriers, and learned about feeding, raising, and general care.
The project is mainly inactive, but if any new members gain interest, we will be glad to start it up again. We will, however continue to organize the Fancy Feathers' Serama Tabletop show.
Our friendly Simply Serama Group warmly welcomes new members, whether they have Seramas or not! Our group often trades birds with each other, and we make sure everyone who wants some gets some!
